3/12/15- Durrington Prep and Performance
We organised to visit Durrington High School and perform a few songs for the students there to both publicise the college and to help us with confidence as it was the first time we performed Rent to an audience. We had to adjust a a few songs to have them fit into our time constraints and also to work in Durrington's drama space. We cut down Would You Light My Candle to save time and all the other songs were set differently to accommodate the smaller room. We performed Seasons of Love, Would You Light My Candle, Take Me or Leave Me and Will I and I performed my solo song, One Song Glory.
When Charley and I performed Would You Light My Candle I wanted the audience to see the romantic and sexual tension between Roger and Mimi and clearly show the awkward, nervous side of Roger as he had not been approached by a girl in this way for a while. The audience laughed during some of it which I think showed that we successfully expressed the funny, awkward side of the song, as well as the romantic.
One Song Glory is a very different song, its far sadder and more moving so I wanted to express this to the audience... i did this through trying to make eye contact with the audience and singing with emotion in my voice. I think this was successful and the audience were quite and still, seeming to all be focused on me.
